Chapter 2, 'STYLING HAIR' makes me think about the question that I have never thought about before. As a hair cutter, the cutting skill is not the only thing to be required, the skills of communicating is as important as the cutting skills. The consumers always have their own opinions of the hair styles, which might not fit them at all. So the communication between the hair cutter and the consumer is significant at this time.
The difference between the waitress and the hair cutter is obviously shown in Chapter 1 and 2. Waitress are work to satisfy the consumers so that they can earn more tips. However, for the hair cutters, they are not only to make money, they have to be response to the consumers' beauty.
You bring up a great point! I agree that people don't always think of how communication between the hair stylist and client works. People think hair dressers just talk with customers about frivolous topics. But, they don't. They have to sometimes tell customers that a certain hair style or cut may not fit them. This conversation is not easy and hair stylists have to be skilled in how they interact with clients. They can't be too blunt. Instead, they have to be clever in responding and interacting, which requires communication skills.
